join

about the Christmas story and reminding us of
the
true meaning of Christmas.
We proceed to the
courthouse where the dining hall
has been set up and a feast
fit for a king awaits all
who visit. each office has been decorated in poinsetta
and tinsel and a myriad of hosts offer games
and
and sweet treats for the children, even
those of adult proportion.
The Courthouse
St. Nicholas leads the parade around
the town square, past Horseshoe Lake
which is full of ice-skaters, circling the
giant blue spruce tree that adorns
the center of the square, and finally
stopping at the Pink Peppermint House.
And while the younger citizens of
Carrollton stop to visit Santa
at the Pink Peppermint House,
joyful parents meet just across the
town square at the Victorian Rose Inn.
The Peppermint House
In the lobby of the stately old Inn
young men and women can be heard
singing Christmas carols as they
prepare for the Christmas pageant
which is held at the town square. Others
are sitting around the lobby and tea room
talking and laughing, sharing Christmas stories
and recipes, making plans for the holidays, and
enjoying the melodious atmosphere of this
joyful season.

As dusk settles you can see people
slowly make their way toward the square.
Lucy Ogilvy, the schoolteacher, is organizing
the
annual tree trimming of the large spruce tree
that
graces the center of the town square. Her students
are eager and so are their parents. Everyone
participates in this event too. Some of the ladies make
a new ornament to add every year. All
new babies
born throughout the year
receive their "Babies First Christmas" ornament
from the Ladies Society of Carrollton.
In a manner of speaking, the towering Christmas
spruce is a history of the citizenry of Carrollton
and the surrounding areas.
